Job Description: Senior Systems Engineer - Aerospace
Position Overview:
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Systems Engineers to lead our aerospace engineering team. The ideal candidate will have extensive knowledge in program management and aircraft design, with a proven track record of managing complex aerospace and defense programs from inception to completion.
Key Responsibilities:
- Team Leadership: Lead a team of engineers, overseeing program management activities, including recruitment, performance evaluation, coaching, mentoring, and career development. Hold team members accountable for their work.
- Program Management: Direct the preparation of proposals, business plans, and specifications; approve estimates and ensure the availability of resources, including engineering, manpower, production, and facilities, for program support.
- Cost and Schedule Management: Manage the cost, schedule, and technical performance requirements of multiple programs through all phases of development, from inception to completion.
- Technical Oversight: Develop, communicate, and execute plans to meet technical program performance; drive innovative thinking and instill a collaborative environment within the team.
- Stakeholder Communication: Clearly express technical concepts in verbal and written forms; adapt conversations for both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Earned Value Management: Implement earned value management techniques to monitor program performance, ensuring alignment with budget and schedule.
- Compliance and Risk Management: Understand and ensure compliance with ITAR, licensing, and regulatory requirements; implement technical risk identification and management processes.
- Documentation and Process Improvement: Establish and refine templates, tools, and guidelines for program documentation and execution; develop recommended process improvements and facilitate opportunities with corporate.
- Training Systems Development: Oversee large program training systems, including mission systems and aircraft trainers with full flight simulation capabilities.
- Logistics and Maintenance: Incorporate integrated logistics approaches to ensure reliability, availability, and maintainability in program design.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Computer Science, Systems Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
- Typically requires a wide range of experience from 8 to 12+ years in relevant fields.
- Thorough knowledge and understanding of program management, aircraft design, and aerospace & defense engineering programs.
- Proven experience leading a team of engineers and managing complex aerospace programs.
- Strong understanding of managing cost, schedule, and technical performance requirements.
- Demonstrated track record of developing, communicating, and executing to meet technical program performance.
- Ability to manage complex situations, delegate authority, and inspire a team while adapting to dynamic situations.
- Earned Value Management experience and understanding of ISO 9001:2000 policies and processes.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Top Secret/SCI U.S. Security Clearance.
Preferred Skills:
- Previous technical leadership experience in aircraft modification programs.
- Extensive experience with aircraft flight and ground test programs.
- Background in the Aerospace and Defense industry, including the US Department of Defense, NASA, or commercial space.
- Experience with technical publications for aircraft maintenance and operations.
- Ability to establish a centralized coordinating body for program concerns and develop process improvements.
