Job Summary: The High Net Worth Tax Expert is a specialized role within the tax advisory services department, focusing on providing comprehensive tax planning and compliance services to high net worth individuals and families. This role requires in-depth knowledge of tax laws, regulations, and strategies related to wealth management and the ability to effectively navigate complex tax environments. The High Net Worth Tax Expert works closely with clients, providing tailored tax advice, minimizing tax liabilities, and optimizing financial outcomes.

Responsibilities:

  1. Tax Planning and Advisory:

    • Conduct detailed tax analysis and develop comprehensive tax planning strategies for high net worth clients, considering their individual circumstances, goals, and risk tolerance.
    • Provide expert guidance on tax-efficient investment vehicles, asset allocation, and wealth transfer strategies, including trusts, foundations, and family limited partnerships.
    • Advise clients on tax implications of major life events, such as business sales, acquisitions, estate planning, and philanthropic activities.
    • Stay up-to-date with changes in tax laws and regulations, identifying opportunities and risks for clients and proactively recommending appropriate actions.
  2. Compliance and Reporting:

    • Oversee the preparation and review of complex individual, partnership, and fiduciary tax returns for high net worth clients, ensuring accuracy, compliance with applicable tax laws, and adherence to filing deadlines.
    • Coordinate with external tax advisors and attorneys to address any legal or regulatory issues pertaining to tax matters, trusts, or other financial structures.
    • Monitor tax-related reporting requirements, such as foreign asset reporting (FBAR), and ensure timely and accurate compliance.
    • Assist in tax audits and inquiries, representing clients and effectively communicating tax positions to tax authorities.
  3. Client Relationship Management:

    • Build and maintain strong relationships with high net worth clients, serving as their primary point of contact for tax-related matters.
    • Understand clients' overall financial objectives and provide proactive tax advice to support their long-term wealth management goals.
    • Communicate complex tax concepts in a clear and concise manner, ensuring clients understand the implications and benefits of recommended tax strategies.
    • Provide exceptional client service, addressing inquiries, resolving issues, and demonstrating a high level of professionalism and integrity.
  4. Team Collaboration:

    • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including wealth managers, financial planners, legal counsel, and other tax professionals, to ensure seamless delivery of integrated services to clients.
    • Share expertise and provide guidance to junior tax professionals, supporting their professional growth and development.
    • Contribute to the development and improvement of tax processes, methodologies, and tools, enhancing overall service quality and efficiency.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field (advanced degree or professional certification, such as CPA or MST, is highly preferred).
  • Extensive experience (typically 7+ years) in tax planning, compliance, and advisory services for high net worth individuals, families, or closely held businesses.
  • In-depth knowledge of federal, state, and international tax laws, regulations, and planning strategies related to high net worth individuals.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to assess complex tax situations and develop creative and effective solutions.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to present complex tax concepts to non-experts in a clear and concise manner.
  • Proficiency in using tax software, research tools, and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
  • Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • Professional demeanor, integrity, and the ability to maintain strict confidentiality.
  • Exceptional client service mindset and the ability to build and maintain long-term relationships.
