Senior Linux Administrator

Sterling Heights, MI

Hybrid Schedule (The on-site component will be determined by status of projects, dept./vendor meetings, hand-on requirements).

Rate: negotiable based on experience and ongoing market rates

The Senior Linux System Administrator in this role will be operating and tuning Linux systems, servers, and related components to ensure high levels of availability and security of the supported business applications.

The Senior Linux Administrator will be performing, but will not be limited to the following:

• Strategy & Planning - Participate in and support capacity planning and the development of long-term strategic goals for Linux/Unix systems and software in conjunction with end-users and department managers.
• Participate in the planning and implementation of policies and procedures to ensure continuity of Linux/Unix system provisioning and maintenance consistent with company goals, industry best practices, and regulatory requirements.
• Acquisition & Deployment
• Coordinate with network engineering, business application, and database administration functions to implement Unix systems that utilize industry best practices to meet corporate objectives.
• Install and configure Unix systems and software.
• Operational Management
• Implement policies, procedures, and technologies to ensure Linux system security through secure system access, monitoring, control, and routine security evaluations.
• Perform standard configuration, management, and maintenance tasks for related file systems, input/output systems, clustering, storage, and applications.
• Perform and test system configuration backups and restores to ensure system recovery from error or outage.
• Perform and test data backups and restores, in conjunction with the storage team where present, to ensure full data retrieval.
• Review and deploy Linux system releases and vendor-supplied patches according to best practices.
• Anticipate, mitigate, identify, troubleshoot, and resolve hardware and software problems on all Linux systems.
• Support application development teams throughout project lifecycles.
• Monitor, test, and tune system performance; preserve and provide system log files as needed. Recommend and execute modifications to Infrastructure to improve efficiency, reliability, and performance.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

• Seven or more years of professional experience with multiple distributions of Linux and Unix in large enterprise environments.
• Five years of professional experience as a Systems Administrator multiple distributions of Linux and Unix servers in large enterprise environments.
• Five years of planning, configuration, implementation, support, and maintenance of Linux/Unix servers in large enterprise environments.
• Five years of professional experience in operational management, implementation of policies, procedures, and technologies for assurance of system security, secure system access, monitoring, control
• Five years of professional experience conducting routine security evaluations.
• US Citizenship and eligibility for government security clearance.
• Local to Sterling Heights, MI (The majority of work will be on-site)

PREFERRED:

• DevSecOps and Cloud deployment experience is preferred.
• RHEL Certification is a plus.
