Position Overview:

This role involves the precise formulation of medications, maintaining sterile conditions, and adhering to stringent regulatory standards. The technician will work closely with the research and development team to ensure the safe and accurate production of biopharmaceutical products.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Compounding and Preparation:

    • Accurately compound sterile and non-sterile pharmaceutical products according to prescribed formulations and protocols.
    • Utilize aseptic techniques to prepare compounded medications in a cleanroom environment.
    • Measure, mix, and compound chemicals and drug ingredients following detailed prescriptions and formulations.
  • Quality Control:

    • Conduct quality control checks and tests on compounded products to ensure compliance with established standards and specifications.
    • Document all compounding activities and maintain accurate records of ingredients, lot numbers, and formulations.
    • Collaborate with the quality assurance team to address any deviations or issues.
  • Regulatory Compliance:

    • Ensure all compounding processes adhere to regulatory requirements including FDA, USP, and cGMP guidelines.
    • Maintain a thorough understanding of and compliance with laboratory safety protocols, including the proper handling and disposal of hazardous materials.
    • Assist in the preparation for and participate in regulatory inspections and audits.
  • Inventory Management:

    • Monitor and manage inventory levels of raw materials, chemicals, and supplies required for compounding.
    • Ensure proper storage conditions for all ingredients and finished products.
    • Perform regular inventory checks and assist in the ordering of supplies as needed.
  • Equipment Maintenance:

    • Operate and maintain laboratory equipment and instruments used in the compounding process.
    • Perform routine cleaning, calibration, and preventive maintenance on all compounding equipment.
    • Report and coordinate repairs of malfunctioning equipment with appropriate personnel.
  • Collaboration and Communication:

    • Work closely with pharmacists, scientists, and other technicians to ensure the efficient and accurate production of compounded products.
    • Communicate effectively with the research and development team to support the formulation of new biopharmaceutical products.
    • Participate in team meetings and contribute to process improvement initiatives.

Qualifications:

  • Education:

    • High school diploma or equivalent required, bachelor's degree preferred.
    • Completion of an accredited pharmacy technician training program preferred.
  • Experience:

    • Minimum of 2 years of experience as a pharmacy technician, preferably in a compounding or laboratory setting.
    • Experience in a biotechnology or pharmaceutical manufacturing environment is highly desirable.
  • Certifications:

    • Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) certification required.
    • Sterile Compounding Certification preferred.
  • Skills and Competencies:

    • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in all tasks.
    • Excellent understanding of aseptic techniques and sterile compounding procedures.
    • Proficient in the use of laboratory equipment and computer systems for record-keeping.
    • Ability to follow complex instructions and standard operating procedures.
    • Strong organizational and time management skills.
    • Effective communication and teamwork abilities.

Working Conditions:

  • May require occasional lifting of materials and equipment up to 25 pounds.
  • Must be able to work flexible hours, including possible evenings and weekends, to meet production deadlines
