We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Construction Accountant to join our dynamic team. This role is crucial in managing and overseeing various financial operations to ensure accuracy and compliance. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in accounting, with specific experience in construction accounting, and be adept at handling multiple tasks with precision.
Key Responsibilities:
- Billing and Documentation:
- Approve and sign project billings, affidavits, and lien waivers.
- Account Reconciliation:
- Complete monthly reconciliations for balance sheet accounts.
- Prepare and monitor aging reports.
- Prepare monthly bank account reconciliations and perform daily monitoring of cash transactions.
- Financial Reporting:
- Prepare monthly journal entries.
- Reconcile intercompany transactions.
- Prepare monthly financial statements and Work in Progress (WIP) schedules.
- Audit and Compliance:
- Assist with year-end audits, including insurance, 401k, financial, and various payroll audits.
- Respond to municipal tax notices.
- Administrative and Managerial Duties:
- Assist with contractor prequalifications.
- Serve as the point of contact for bankers, insurance brokers, and other professionals.
- Provide managerial oversight for the accounting and administrative team.
- Undertake other duties and special projects as assigned by the CFO.
Candidate Profile:
- Education and Certification:
- Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance; CPA designation preferred but not required.
- Experience:
- Minimum of 3 years of accounting experience.
- Strong knowledge of construction accounting practices.
- Technical Skills:
- Proficient in MS Excel.
- Experience with financial software systems, particularly Sage 300, preferred.
- Attributes:
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with keen attention to detail.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to interact effectively with various stakeholders.
