Cost Accountant
Job Duties and Responsibilities
- Perform inventory valuation to reflect actual period expenses incurred; implement process improvement concepts.
- Manage period standard cost roll; develop costing reports as well as perform periodic variance analysis (actual to standard).
- Ensure automated internal transactions are processed daily uploading to general ledger. Research and resolve errors; oversee and update ERP defined accounting rules.
- Compile and prepare support documentation for inventory valuation; review, research, and reconcile any abnormalities in data ensuring accuracy.
- Lead and manage monthly excess and obsolete inventory reviews.
- Lead and manage physical inventory and cycle counts to ensure accurate inventory count and valuation.
- Analyze, reconcile, and resolve inventory discrepancies.
- Prepare and distribute timely monthly inventory reports.
- Ensure timely month-end close process including preparation and input of journal entries as assigned; preparation of general ledger supporting schedules related to inventory and cost accounts.
- Support of accounts payable function including but not limited to coding and data management.
- Serve as key liaison to various internal customers for all inventory valuation issues.
- Manage schedules for outside auditors, explain and provide supporting materials and with procedures.
- Perform special projects as assigned by CFO, Controller, and/or the Accounting Manager.
Requirements
Required Skills/Abilities
- Knowledge of supply chain, receiving, inventory flow, operations processes and manufacturing principles.
- Experience with Microsoft Office and ERP systems (SAP preferred).
- Ability to multi-task and drive actions to completion under strict deadlines.
- Demonstrate clear written and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent Microsoft Excel skills and the ability to manipulate and analyze large amounts of data.
- Analytically solid with the desire and competency to come up with out-of-the-box ideas to resolve complex manufacturing accounting challenges.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor's degree in accounting or related area (MBA or CPA preferred).
- Minimum 5 years' experience in manufacturing accounting or audit, with relevant inventory experience.
