Description:

Weather Data Analyst (for Environmental and Digital Farming Team)

This role will drive the innovation solutions for integrating weather information into agronomic models across to support Enterprise Weather and Environmental product pipelines.

The Weather Data Analyst will work collaboratively with talented engineers, data analysts, data scientists and atmospheric scientists analyzing a wide spectrum of atmospheric, environmental, and manage data to determine data quality and uncertainty in relation to agronomic models.

The ideal candidate is an atmospheric or environmental scientist who is experienced with data exploration, particularly with manipulating geospatial timeseries data. The candidate possesses a strong intuition in how weather processes impact agriculture and which weather dataset can represent these processes. They also have the creativity and drive to explore and extract the most value from a diverse range of datasets of varying scales, formats, and quality. The candidate has the ability and desire to work in highly collaborative multidisciplinary environments as well as an ability to work and problem solve independently.

Key responsibilities include:
* Engage with diverse research and production groups in order to efficiently communicate information about weather datasets, including impacts on models and products.
* Collaborate with scientists across the organization to identify gaps in weather data needs and realize the full value of weather information.
* Design and improve weather data pipelines, ensuring that weather data are of high quality and accurately represented.
* Exploratory data analysis, data cleaning and processing of a wide range of weather datasets.
* Evaluate historical and forecast weather data skill in the context of agriculture.
* Troubleshoot and address messy datasets for erroneous or missing data, assessing potential impacts on downstream users.
* Working collaboratively with a team of weather scientists, data scientists, and software engineers that embrace best practices, tools and information available.
* Write beautiful, robust, well-documented and well-tested research and library code.

Minimum Requirements:
* Master's degree in Atmospheric Science or a related discipline, paired with experience in data analytics and computationally intensive data validation and analysis.
* Minimum of 2-year hands-on experience collecting and manipulating diverse geospatial timeseries datasets, including gridded environmental data.
* Minimum of 2-year experience with Python (Pandas, NumPy, SciPy, xarray, etc), with demonstrated ability to write well-structured, well-tested, maintainable, performant, and well-documented code.
* Experience with SQL and handling large datasets.
* Experience with code versioning and version control systems such as git, and version control hosting platforms such as GitHub and GitLab.
