Purpose: An Assistant Controller is responsible for providing high-level support to the Group Controller by managing a company's accounting and financial activities. The duties include producing financial summary statements, forecasting a company's financial health and correcting inaccuracies in a company's financial records. This position will consult with executives and high-level management to identify accounting issues and implement procedures to ensure compliance with financial laws and regulations, collaborate with Group Controller to create and implement accountability systems and internal controls that prevent errors and inaccurate accounting documents, and be able to process large amounts of data and identify patterns based on their analysis.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Preparing monthly, quarterly and yearly financial reports
  • Assisting Accounting Managers with budgeting
  • Assisting with billing and tax documentation preparation
  • Working with the company financial team to create internal controls and policies
  • Identifying solutions to discrepancies in financial records
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Proficient in basic office and accounting software programs
  • Collaboration and teamwork skills
  • Teaching and explaining concepts to others, allowing them to present compliance standards in a way that is easy for others to follow.
  • Check in with the different members of an accounting department to ensure that they are not having any trouble with accurate reporting and compliance.
  • Review company ledgers so they can compile financial statements and finalize accounts accurately according to reported cash flows.
  • Compare actual reports to financial projections, looking for discrepancies and correcting them. Based on their findings, they make recommendations to the Corporate Controller for police changes.
  • Assist with the preparation of financial statements, budget reports, and internal control systems. The assistant controller's duties also include managing payroll, accounts payable/receivable, reconciling accounts, and assisting with financial audits. You must be able to work independently and with the highest levels of integrity.

  • Supporting the accounting department with all aspects of the general ledger.
  • Ensuring strict compliance with company and regulatory standards.
  • Preparing and managing accounts using various software programs.
  • Preparing and assisting with audits.
  • Following changes in regulations and compiling reports regarding compliance issues, standards, and accounting practices.
  • Assisting in the formulation of internal controls and policies to comply with legislation and established best practices
  • Assisting in the preparation of financial statements in compliance with official guidelines and requirements

  • Manage journal entries, invoices etc. and reconcile accounts for the monthly or annual closing
  • Assist in the preparation of budgets or forecasts
  • Participate in preparation for the annual audit
  • Help in development of reports for management or regulatory bodies
  • Review the company's accounting information to identify and resolve inaccuracies or imbalances
  • Utilize accounting IT system to facilitate processes and maintain records

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Work is performed while sitting majority of the day in an office setting
  • Requires the ability to communicate effectively using speech, vision and hearing
  • Requires the use of hands for simple grasping and fine manipulations
  • Requires the ability to lift, carry, push or pull medium weights, up to 10 pounds

LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

  • Degree in accounting, finance, or in a related field.
  • 6+ years experience as an accountant, assistant controller, or in a similar role.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented.
  • Excellent math and accounting skills.
  • Strong supervisory and management skills.
  • Expert knowledge of accounting and financial principles, regulations and best practices
  • Excellent understanding of governmental guidelines, tax laws that affect the company
  • Proficient with data analysis, critical thinking and problem-solving
  • Solid knowledge of GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles) and regulations
  • Excellent knowledge of accounting and financial processes (budgeting, financial closure, reporting etc.)
  • Understanding of data analysis and forecasting
  • Working knowledge of MS Office (especially excel) and accounting software, BuildOps and INTACC preferred
  • Well-organized with ability to prioritize
  • Very good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Professional certification (e.g. CPA) is a plus
