Position Overview: We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Legal Assistant to join our team. The ideal candidate will have experience in litigation support and a solid understanding of legal procedures and documentation. This role involves assisting attorneys in preparing for trials, managing case files, and ensuring that all legal processes run smoothly.
Key Responsibilities:
- Document Management: Draft, proofread, and file legal documents such as pleadings, motions, and discovery requests. Maintain and organize case files, ensuring all documents are up-to-date and accurately filed.
- Client Interaction: Communicate with clients, witnesses, and experts to gather information, schedule appointments, and provide updates on case progress.
- Research: Conduct some legal research to support case strategy and preparation. Assist in gathering evidence and preparing discovery responses.
- Court Filings: File legal documents with the court, manage deadlines, and ensure compliance with court rules and procedures.
- Administrative Tasks: Perform general administrative duties including managing calendars, scheduling meetings, and handling correspondence.
Qualifications:
- Education: Associate's degree in Paralegal Studies or a related field preferred; a certificate in paralegal studies is a plus.
- Experience: Minimum of 2+ years of experience as a Legal Assistant with a preference for candidates with litigation experience.
- Skills:
- Strong understanding of legal terminology, procedures, and documentation.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and legal research tools.
- Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working with case management software (e.g., Clio, LexisNexis).
- Familiarity with e-filing procedures and court systems.
- Previous experience in a law firm or legal department specializing in litigation.
